Today I am sharing one of my family’s favorite recipes, Korean Beef Bowls. This recipe comes together quickly and is very filling. The ingredients are fresh and prepared simply. The flavors blend beautifully for a spicy, sweet, and savory taste sensation. =)

I do need to say that I am the only vegan in my family. I make the Korean Beef with meatless beef strips for me and hamburger for the rest of the gang (cooked separately). The recipe for the sauce makes enough for both the meat and the meat substitute when doubled. Below is the regular single recipe. It would be good for a whole bag of meat substitute if you are cooking for all vegans.

Korean Sauce

1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. soy sauce (Make sure it’s vegan.  I used Kikkoman)
1 Tbsp. sesame oil
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder

1x1.trans - Korean Beef Bowl - Vegan Style

I like the Morning Star brand of steak strips.   You can buy these at most grocery stores.  They come frozen.  I  place the frozen strips in a small frying pan and add the Korean Sauce.  Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 -10 minutes or until the strips are well heated and the sauce has reduced and thickened.  Serve over a bed of rice. Garnish with veggies.  We like to add:

broccoli
shredded carrots
mushrooms
red peppers
kim chee
edamame
pea pods
